Deepest and Longest Wells Ever Drilled: Geoscience of Deep Exploration:

Rasoul Sorkhabi will discuss the chronology and significance of deepest or longest wells ever drilled for scientific research on continents and seafloor, conventional oil and gas exploration, shale oil plays, geothermal power, mining, and carbon sequestration. Ultradeep drilling reveals older rocks formations and deeper geological history of Earth and contributes not only to resource exploration but also to geoscience. Drilling technology – thanks to the oil and gas exploration – has amazingly advanced from onshore wells of 70 feet in the mid-19th century to offshore drills of 35,000 feet below water depths of 4,000 feet. There is so much science and technology in every step of this remarkable journey.
