EGI recently invested in new, state-of-the art equipment for source rock characterization. The HAWK™ Analyzer provides S1, S2, S3 and TOC data as well as Tmax information. The specially designed instrument has better free petroleum (S1) sensitivity for improved identification of pay in resource plays and adds a new level of sophistication for specialized analysis and integrated interpretation to understand hydrocarbon phase and charge history.
Pyrolysis results from the HAWK™ combined with customized gas chromatography and mass spectrometry analysis represents a significant uplift in EGI’s geochemistry capability. Our experts combine petroleum biomarker data and sequence stratigraphy to determine source rock facies and depositional environments with high-resolution techniques such as QEMSCAN®, XRD, XRF, Ar-ion milling, SEM (including high-resolution composite imaging), FIB-SEM to create cutting-edge petroleum systems analyses. This collective approach to characterize conventional and unconventional petroleum hydrocarbon resources including shale oil, tight oil, low resistivity, by-passed, and conventional pay zones may lower costs and enhance production for our CA members.
