India launched the first shale gas NELP round in 2012. In response to the impact this new major exploration initiative may have for our Corporate Associate members EGI is developing research studies to carry out regional and basin specific projects in the prospective regions.

A regional map showing the location of major shale deposits (figure 1), clearly demonstrates a country-wide distribution for potentially productive shales in India. Some shales are proven source rocks related to currently producing hydrocarbon basins. Participants are encouraged to register their thoughts and interest in the project development. Sponsors will take an active role in steering our research efforts.
