Given the problems with exploration permits for North American Atlantic margins, a shift in research to concentrate entirely on the proven and previously overlooked petroleum systems on the African side of the Central Atlantic is in order. This area includes all African margin basins from the Rharb-Perif basin to the southern Guinea Plateau. Continental sections on the NW African margin will be evaluated for their contributions to the offshore basins.
