Interpretations of the proposed basins are complicated by the heterogeneous nature of the facies involved. Traditional biostratigraphy, with its reliance upon (generally marine) zonal marker species is inadequate for E&P companies in this region.

In contrast, EGI’s Composite Standard Databases (see Appendix) provide a means to obtain high–resolution chronostratigraphic (absolute age) control which are independent from zonal markers and facies. Thus, difficult correlations are reliably accomplished.
